KARNAL: Electioneering in Karnal, Sonepat and Kurukshetra parliamentary constituencies is sans poster war this time, thanks to strict warnings by the District Magistrates cum Returning officers hardly any candidate is resorting to "Posterbazi".

The walls of private houses, shops, even main chowks and bazaars are free from this menace.
The walls of homes have not been defaced, returning officer RS Doon for Karnal constituency have registered cases against five people for defacing private property.

Because of fear, the candidates and their supporters are afraid of painting party slogans on walls. Large quantities of election material including posters and flags are still lying stored in offices of different political parties.

So much is the panic gripping workers of parties that big posters of BJP with photos of pf Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Union State Home Minister ID Swami about 1000 in number were digged out by a sweeper from a gutter here.

The BJP workers seem to have dumped posters because of fear of district administration which does not allow this. Most of the Posterbazi is confined to election offices of political parties where flags and buntings could be seen in large numbers. However, Kurukshetra presents a different picture as far as putting of flags is concerned.

Green colored INLD flags could be seen atop almost all shops and houses from the party offices on Pipli road. Abhay Chautala son of Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala is INLD candidate from here. In Indri town - a part of Karnal parliamentary constituency the violations of election code are galore as some parties have put up buntings across road and posters on some private walls. Pamphleteering is also less this time.

Candidates have devised new means to put their case before the electorate and party achievements. Local cable operators have come handy to them; candidates in fray prefer to display their and their parties'' achievement on small screen through cable operators.

This way they can convey their message to voters in quietitude of their homes. BJP''s ID Swami has chosen to put up big hoardings listing achievements of party at a vantage point in urban estate.

Following his footsteps Arvind Sharma of Indian National Congress has put up a big hoarding near Sabzi mandi. Ashok Arora INLD is not left behind and has put up a big hoarding in Ramnagar area.

Till today life size cut outs of candidates are also missing. In order to convey their message to voter, some candidates here have chosen to participate in a public discussion before Karnal voters from the stage being conducted by Young Jaycess Club and Citizen Grievance Committee.

The discussion will be cast live by local cable operators. In meetings with representatives of political parties the returning officers of Sonipat and Karnal seats have made clear that no violation of code of election and conduct will be allowed and tolerated vis-Ã -vis publicity and vehicles to be used in it.

Although it is mandatory on candidates to submit daily accounts of their expenditure in the office of returning officer everyday but enquiries made by TNN show that hardly any candidate has adhered to this provision, delayed accounts are submitted in connivance with the lower staff in returning officers offices.

<formid=367815></formid=367815>
